FairCup offers an alternative to single-use products

Since July 3, 2021, some single-use plastic products such as cutlery, plates, drinking straws and stirring sticks as well as to-go drinks cups, fast food packaging and disposable food containers made of Styrofoam are no longer allowed to be placed on the market. “During the corona pandemic, the amount of rubbish has increased enormously, as a lot of people have ordered food or bought drinks to take away.

The overflowing rubbish bins in parks brought this to our eyes. Reusable systems save resources and reduce littering of the environment. HEAG-FairCup GmbH in Darmstadt has declared war on the daily disposable waste and has introduced a reusable deposit system for drinks and food. The state specifically supports such new solutions and innovative ideas and promotes the reusable system for Darmstadt and the region at 60. 000 euros. I hope that many people will follow this example and that reusable systems will also be created in other cities and communities, ”said Environment Minister Priska Hinz today.

With the founding of HEAG FairCup GmbH and the introduction of the FairCup reusable deposit system last year, the foundations for a sustainable path were laid. “Since it is important to think about a holistic approach to packaging and not just concentrate on individual to-go products, we decided to use the products from FairCup GmbH for a reusable deposit system that can be used universally for many drinks and meals.” , says Daniel Pfeffer, managing director of HEAG FairCup GmbH.

The product portfolio currently consists of the FairCup, a reusable cup in four different sizes with a drinking or sealing lid, and the FairBox, a reusable bowl in two sizes – 500 ml and 1,000 ml – with a flexible partition and a reusable lid that fits on both bowls . The range will be expanded to include additional products in the coming months.

Legislation calls for a switch to sustainability

“The new legislation represents a further challenge for the catering industry, which we would like to support with our system,” says Sibylle Meyer, Managing Director of HEAG FairCup GmbH. “Companies that conclude a 1-year system partner contract with HEAG FairCup GmbH in the summer will receive the first three months free of charge”.

Can be used nationwide – wide range of applications

In Darmstadt and the region, 25 system partners are currently participating in the FairCup reusable deposit system. “Our goal is to win at least 100 partners in Darmstadt, the Rhine-Main-Neckar region and Hesse,” says Daniel Pfeffer. “Cooperation with local authorities is particularly important to us. Because the acceptance of a deposit system increases with the number of withdrawal and return points within a city. For this, HEAG FairCup offers support in the organization and implementation of information events. “

FairCup is a national deposit system that does not stop at regional borders. Rather, the system shines through a wide range of applications: In addition to bakers, ice cream parlors and snack bars, the FairCup products are also a future-oriented alternative to disposable packaging for supermarkets, unpackaged shops, restaurants, delivery services and canteens or hotels. Because FairCup products are vending machines, they are also very user-friendly. “With EDEKA Jakobi in Bensheim, we have won the first food retailer in southern Hesse who will soon take back our products via a deposit machine. This is a wonderful signal that we are on the right track to establish a user-friendly deposit system, ”says Sibylle Meyer.

Awarded the “Blue Angel”

FairCup products help to a large extent to avoid materials that are harmful to the environment and health and are certified with the “Blue Angel”. HEAG FairCup GmbH was founded for sales in the science city of Darmstadt and in the region. It is a cooperation between FairCup in Göttingen and HEAG.
