TIPCI Group won the award in recognition for innovating a sustainable packaging solution in the UK. The pallet company has designed and built a machine at their UK headquarters in Portsmouth, that processes waste wood into heat-treated pallet blocks. It makes TIPCI the first company in the UK to produce heat treated pallet blocks in this way. Prior to inventing their own method, TIPCI Group were relying on a European-based company for the pallet blocks, which were produced from cutting down trees. Now, at TIPCI, the same quality of pallet block can be produced on UK shores, preventing waste wood go to landfill.

After three years of design and investment into the project, TIPCI Group launched the manufacturing in the summer of 2021. As well as using them to produce high quality pallets, TIPCI Group supply other pallet companies with heat treated pallet blocks, delivering a more sustainable solution in the UK.

Managing Director at TIPCI Group, Connor Hoare, comments: “Unfortunately, millions of tonnes of waste wood go to landfill every year. It’s unnecessary. With pallet demand increasing world-wide, TIPCI are working hard to put an end to wasting wood. Many pallet companies don’t have an option but to send irreparable pallets to landfill.

We’re delighted to offer a complete end-to-end solution for our customers; the pallets in circulation come back to us and, no matter of their state of repair, they are reused and recycled and recirculated back into the pallet eco system.

The pallet crushing machine is a significant step forward in our quest to become the first Zero Waste pallet company in the UK”.
