PERKIER ANNOUNCES IT’S CARBON NEUTRAL

Perkier, the fastest growing healthy snack bar in the UK announces it is carbon neutral

Perkier (www.perkier.co.uk), the fastest growing healthy snack bar in the UK1 has announced it is carbon neutral, a first within its competitive set. Perkier is passionate about the planet and already has a host of sustainable and ethical credentials under its belt including being plant-based, palm-oil-free, fully recyclable packaging and its manufacturing is B-Corp certified.

Working with ClimatePartner, a leading corporate climate action solutions provider, Perkier has measured their full carbon footprint. Every step has been considered: from the sourcing and transport of ingredients, to how the bars are made, the packaging used, the outbound transport to stores across the UK, how the product gets into the hands of its customers and finally, the end of life of the product—this is a key step, in a commitment to be Net Zero by 2030.

Perkier, which recently exceeded its crowdfunding goal by 250%, has a total carbon emission of 501 tonnes—the equivalent to 596 economy flights from London to New York—and has chosen to compensate its residual emissions through certified offset projects. The projects that Perkier has chosen cover all three types of Carbon Offset: (1) Carbon Avoidance (education and new sources of income for local communities to avoid deforestation), (2) Carbon Reduction (hydropower as an alternative energy source, Boreholes for clean water) and (3) Carbon Removal (afforestation). The projects will include providing renewable energy in Congo, clean water in Sierre Leonne as well as afforestation in the UK, Peru and Nicaragua. Perkier has gone one step further and is committed to supporting projects in 2023 to avoid deforestation in Borneo, where critically endangered orangutans are losing their habitat to the palm oil industry, a project close to the Perkier teams’ hearts.

Ann Perkins, Founder of Perkier says “88% of UK consumers want to live more sustainably. We have taken action to help reduce our company’s impact on the planet, and will continue to do so on our roadmap to be Net Zero by 2030. By providing Carbon Neutral products to the snacking category, we are helping customers and consumers make better-informed decisions. It is a pleasure to partner with ClimatePartner to measure Perkier’s full carbon footprint, from growing the ingredients to the moment after our Perkier bars are eaten, and offset our residual carbon through truly inspiration initiatives.”

Emilien Hoet, Head of ClimatePartner UK say“Perkier has shown great dedication towards its goal to become a Net Zero company by 2030. By taking responsibility for its residual emissions, they are demonstrating that climate action can and should be part of how business operates.”

The Perkier range is available in Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, ASDA and Amazon. Plus, leading food-to-go outlets.
