RESOURCE-SAVING AND FLEXIBLE MACHINE TECHNOLOGY FOR SUSTAINABLE FILM AND PAPER PACKAGING

Hugo Beck is meeting the growing demand for sustainable primary and secondary packaging solutions by enabling customers to choose both the packaging type and material, all from one single machine.

The new paper X hybrid advance is Hugo Beck’s most flexible and efficient Form Fill and Seal machine for packaging goods in paper or film. Hugo Beck’s resource-saving machine technology now allows customers to select whether a product is packaged in film, enabling savings in material of 15-70%, or alternatively in paper. A simple changeover enables users to be ready for the new product and packaging material.

Both uncoated and coated paper can be used for producing bags with two glued sides plus a top overlap. Alternative closing techniques are also possible on request.

With regards to film, the patented tight bag packaging ensures there is a minimum excess with only as much film being used as is needed. Material savings of approx. 60 – 70 percent are possible in the film volume per item, particularly in comparison with standard film packaging customary in the industry. This is achieved by using thinner and lighter packaging and shrink films.

“Over the last year we have experienced an enormous change in demand for alternative packaging solutions,” said Timo Kollmann, Sales Director at Hugo Beck. “While the topics of sustainability, recyclability and the circular economy of packaging are not new, the urgency and awareness in the industry to become active, beyond mere talking, has increased significantly.

“Each company has its own unique requirements for packaging their goods and we therefore need to ensure our customers are able to select the best material according to their specific product application and sustainability objectives. Delivering choice to our customers is key. The current debate regarding sustainability and the use of plastic film in the packaging industry shows how complex the issues are, with different materials meeting the many different environmental objectives our customers’ face. From lightweight thinner films, to bioplastics or the latest mono-material films and recycled content materials, there are many options for manufacturers and our latest machine technology now enables the cost-effective, flexible use of paper alongside filmic packaging to deliver even greater functionality.”

With over 65 years of experience in customised and flexible film packaging solutions, Hugo Beck is well known in the packaging industry for providing the highest quality in packaging appearance, machine availability and efficiency. However, fewer people are aware that it has also been possible for some time to use certain Hugo Beck machine solutions to produce packaging from paper materials. This longstanding knowledge has helped deliver a wide range of pack options for customers wanting to use both paper alongside virtually all types of film. “Many of our innovations are the result of valuable feedback from the market. Thanks to our close relationship with our customers, our future-proof paper X hybrid advance machines offer real benefits and productivity advantages and is now integral to our provision of flexible machinery for sustainable film and paper packaging,” concludes Timo Kollmann.
